Dear Co-Teachers (Parents/Guardians) and Scholars,

Welcome to First Grade! I am very EXCITED to be your teacher. I look forward to working with and getting to know each of you. I am a Troy, Alabama native and have a Bachelor of Arts degree (Elementary Education) from Tuskegee University and a Master of Education degree (Elementary Education) from Alabama State University. This year, during my nineteenth year of teaching, we will learn many fun and innovative things. I LOVE teaching and have very high expectations for ALL of my students. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Weekly News: December 12, 2022

  • For details about upcoming events/activities at our school, please see the December GWC Calendar that was sent home November 29, 2022.
    • Winter Break: December 19, 2022- January 3, 2023
  • Please complete and return the Impact Aid form that was sent home Wednesday, December 7, 2022, if you have not already done so. 
  • Our Class Winter Celebration (Pajama Day) will be held Friday, December 16, 2022. Specific details will be posted on our Class Dojo page.
  • Your child's Second Nine Weeks Progress Report was sent home Friday, November 18, 2022. Please sign and return it, if you have not already done so.
  • Specific details about our upcoming (class/school/district) Spelling Bee was sent home November 29, 2022.
  • Scholars may be enrolled in optional COVID testing with parental consent. Specific details were sent home December 1, 2022.
  • Mid Year Virtual Parent Conferences/MTSS meetings will be scheduled when return from the Winter Break. Previous meetings were scheduled for October 10, 2022 and October 19, 2022. Specific details (date/time) will be sent via a private message on Class Dojo.​​​​​​
  • Individual PowerSchool login information was sent home Tuesday, August 23, 2022. 
  • Individual Student i-Ready Diagnostic I Data reports were sent home Friday, September 9, 2022.
  • Each scholar was given a package of index cards on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Please use the Macon County 2022-2023 First Grade Word List to make high frequency words flashcards with your child.
  • For FUN Math, Science, and Technology at-home activities, please see the September AMSTI Numeracy calendar that was sent home Monday, September 12, 2022.
  • "Cubby Gear" (t-shirts) may be purchased for $10.00. For specific details, please see the information that was posted on our school's Class Dojo page.
  • Students may bring earbuds or headphones to school for usage in the classroom.
  • Please complete and return your child's In-School i-Pad Agreement, I you have not already done so. This form was sent home Tuesday, August 23, 2022.   
  • Behavior Charts have started for each child. Please use the Discipline Plan to continue to discuss school and classroom rules with your child. For specific details about your child's behavior, please pay close attention to the codes at the top of the Behavior Chart.
  • Camp STEAM started Wednesday, August 17, 2022. For specific details, please see the flyer that was sent home Friday, August 12, 2022.
  • Please consider joining GWC's PTA. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Dues are $5.00 per family.
  • Please accept Ms. Dix's Class Dojo invitation, if you have not already done so. This will be our main form of communication.
  • Please make sure that you have completed registration, with our school counselor, Mrs. Daniels.
  • If your child is absent, please send an excuse upon his/her return to school. 
  • Let's help to flatten the COVID-19 curve! Please be reminded that masks must be worn in Macon County Schools.
  • In case of an accident, please keep an extra pair of clothing (pants, underwear, socks, and etc.) in your child's backpack.
  • Please be sure to always update your contact information (phone numbers, address, email address, and etc.), if there is a change. 
  • Please check your child's blue communicator folder each day. Also, place homework, notes, forms, and etc. in the folder.
  • Students will be unable to change their daily transportation without a note from a parent/guardian. 
  • Please do not remove the tag that was placed on your child's backpack. This is a part of our school's dismissal plan.
